Proposed Variation (No. 1) to the County Development Plan 2024-2030

The Proposed Variation (No. 1) to the County Development Plan 2024-2030 was published for public consultation in January/February 2026 and included:

  • New Area Plans An Clochán Liath, Ballyshannon, Bridgend, Carndonagh, Donegal Town and Killybegs, and related amendments to Chapter 17 Area Plan General Introduction and

  • Amendments to the Buncrana Area Plan, Letterkenny Plan and the Ballybofey/Stranorlar Area Plan.

It also seeks to meet updated housing growth requirements contained in the recent NPF Implementation: Housing Growth Requirement Guidelines for Planning Authorities.

The Elected Members considered the Chief Executive’s Report about the public consultation before they made Proposed Material Alterations (PMAs) to the Proposed Variation at the Special Council Meeting of the 27th April. The PMAs have been subject to Strategic Environmental Assessment, Appropriate Assessment and Strategic Flood Risk Assessment.

The Proposed Material Alterations and associated revised Environmental Assessments are now published for public consultation between Friday 5th June and Friday 3rd July 2026 (see links further below). Statutory public notices were also published in English and Irish. Written submissions can be made:
